Horsepacking and Guys Nantahala

I am in shock of how fast old school is going! The girls had an amazing opportunity to go horse packing with Brody and Little Holloway. It was the best part so far at least for me. we had so much fun learning how to ride horses better and growing in our walks with God. My favorite part of the trip had to be sitting around the fire the first night after being fed steak and potatoes, and just talking about how God led us here and how He was working in our life. I loved getting to have such personal time with Brody and Little, and getting to know them on a more personal level then just at camp. I also enjoyed finding out that there was a snake put in my hammock by Tucker, good thing I found out before I laid in it! I am so thankful for Old School and how God is using it in my walk with Him

Going into the Nantahala section with the guys, I was really excited about learning to guide! I had been down the river probably six or seven times before, either with snowbird during summer camp, or with my family. But, I hadn't ever really gotten the chance to learn how to guide well. But, to be completely honest with ya'll. I have now decided that guides have the most fun of anyone on the river! It was cool too, because we would hit the river atleast once or twice a day, and then usually run the falls at the bottom around 8-10 times so that all of us guys got to guide for at least two runs. THe nice thing about that was, we had two rafts and would a lot of times, switch up who was in what raft, so it was a great time to get to know all of the guys even better and just spend some good time having fun. We did work though! Spencer told us that how we did on the Nantahala would be deciding how big of a river we are going to hit next, so we really made sure we had all the skills down, and that we could run everything in the right place.
The teaching sessions have been great too! Every night during the last couple days, we would meet at Spencer and Amy's house, for dinner and a session. Spencer was speaking mainly out of Philippians 2. He talked a lot about how Christ sets the example with His humility and that after looking upon that example, we should be striving to live lives of humility ourselves. One thing that really stood out to me was when he talked about selfish claims on life that we make. He pointed out that a lot of times, we selfishly decide that we are entitled to something, and then get upset when it doesn't go how we feel it should. Here are a couple of quotes from what Spencer said, "It's interesting that the more we make claims on life, or feel entitled to something, the more we will feel cheated out of what we think we deserve." "We must understand that even the notion of making personal claims on life is in itself incredibly self-centered." "We relate better with our humble and self-less Savior when we ourselves are attaining those attributes."
After running the river and the falls multiple times in a row, and then being challenged in that way about being able to better relate to my Savior through being self-less and humble, I have really learned a lot and been challenged both physically and spiritually the last couple of days!
By the way... thank-you so much to all of ya'll who have committed to be praying and fasting for our OLD School group this semester. The thought of ya'll praying for us is in itself incredibly encouraging and humbling to me, and I really appreciate it!!
