Going into this backpacking section I was really nervous, about what to expect, physically, mentally and emotionally. I was really working hard on giving my worries and fears over to God. As I sit here thinking back to the 13 days I just spent in the woods I have mostly good memories! I enjoyed my time in the woods, and actually have found myself longing to be back in the calmness!
The first night we talked about Biblical Community and how it looked. The very next day I feel like God showed it to me, I fell and rolled my ankle and the weight of my pack was too much for it, so I had to let some of the guys carry it. And it really showed me that in a community of believers we are to come together to help life the hurting one up. Not only was someone carrying my pack, but also everyone one was encouraging me! I really feel like that day changed my perspective on community.
During the 6 days that the girls were by ourselves, God really showed me how what I was doing was a picture of life with Him. How the trail was our lives, it has up’s and down’s easy and hard parts. Its narrow and sometimes scary, but you have to trust that it is taking you to your end goal. Also how the trailblazer can be viewed in this analogy as God, we have never seen him, but he went before us and laid out the path so we could follow in confidence. We have to learn to trust what he has given us. Next, the map, its like our Bible, we look to it when we need it, and even when we don’t. We go to it for advice and direction. I thought that it was really cool that God put that into my head while I was out there! I am so grateful for the calm and quiet time I was able to spend with Him.
One of my favorite memories was the last night, all of us gathered around the campfire and started singing random songs, just laughing and hanging out. Then when I climbed into my hammock I looked up ad saw the gorgeous stars. I had a perfect clearing over my head to see and there was not a cloud in the sky. I just sat there and starred up at the sky! I can’t wait to see what I will learn in this next section.
